Supporting Wings for Women

In August, Big Heart is supporting Wings for Women.
Mission Statement
Empowering homeless and impoverished women to overcome despair through basic living support, coaching, and guidance to lead self-sustainable, productive lives….
Goals
    •    To provide a clean, safe, sober-living home environment where women and their children feel welcomed and supported in their transition to becoming independent members of the community.
    •    To offer education, job training and skill-building opportunities for women to prepare themselves for self-sufficiency.
Values
    •    We believe everyone who is given a chance, regardless of the past, can excel with support and community intervention.
    •    We believe in the power of mentoring to help people achieve their dreams. By motivating, supporting, and creating opportunities for others to excel, mentors are valuable role models that build confidence and self-esteem.
    •    We believe in the ability to empower people by educating them about systems of societal dysfunction, thereby transforming their beliefs.

Our Family Services

July is Our Family Services month
at Big Heart Coffee
These are some of the services Our family Services provides for Tucson.
"Our mission is to eliminate homelessness and strengthen our community. We do this by:
    • providing stability in times of crisis
    • linking people to support and resources
    • supporting social connectedness
    • engaging our neighbors to tackle tough community issues.
Our continuum of care helps homeless children, youth and families into safe, stable housing and on to independent lives through street outreach, shelter and support, and case management. We help build a better community through counseling, education and skill building, services for elders and adults with disabilities, information and referral, and our Center for Community Dialogue.
Our Family Services provides shelter and support to homeless children, youth and families. We promote peace and understanding by helping people talk to each other. We help people learn to be better parents, improve their lives, their relationships, and build stronger families. We help elders and adults with disabilities live safely and with dignity in their own homes."

Volunteering & Internships
Volunteers who give their time and talents are an integral part of Our Family – from volunteer community mediators who help their neighbors resolve their disagreements, to seniors who help other seniors reduce the loneliness in their lives. Counseling and case-management interns earn school credit and gain valuable experience in our programs working with young people, families or seniors, and opportunities are available for people who speak Spanish. Iced Tea
Jin Guan Yin Wulong(Golden Tie Guan Yin)
Golden Tie Guan Yin is uncommonly intense. Even the aromatic richness of its dry leaf stands out among other Tie Guan Yin. When brewed it yields buttery and fruity aromatics and a bright yellow-green infusion.
Lowers cholesterol,  Aids digestion,  Boosts your metabolism,  Promotes healthy hair,  Fights Eczema (In a month-long study in Japan, people with eczema who drank three cups of oolong tea felt relief from their itching in just one week.),  Stabilizes blood sugar,  Prevents tooth decay -Both oolong and green tea protect teeth from acid produced by certain bacteria. The production of acid and the growth of bacteria are both inhibited by oolong tea, which means it is effective in preventing tooth decay and build-up plaque.

Bikers Against Child Abuse

Big Heart is proud to sponsor
Bikers Against Child Abuse- B.A.C.A.
Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of Bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization. We work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organization, and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and our physical presence. We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse. We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner, however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle.

How did B.A.C.A. start?
B.A.C.A. started as an idea to help one wounded child. This child was eight years old at the time, and was so frightened of his perpetrators that he would not leave his residence. Chief, having had kind and loving experiences with bikers in his youth was moved to include this boy in his biker circle. Within weeks, this boy was seen all over town riding his bike and playing with other children. The idea to rally the biker community in defense and in support of children was actualized in 1995 when the first ride was held to visit wounded children and bring them into the biker family- that first ride had twenty seven bikes present.
